How Activate Your Life came to be

Activate Your Life was born as a project to share the work of amazing coaches, to help them become published authors, and to give you access to a collection of the best coaching exercises.

Three years ago I was part of a collaborative book project where 100 entrepreneurs shared a key business lesson in their own chapter in The Better Business Book, volume I. The book became a bestseller and gave me the confidence to publish my first solo book, Superconductors.

As a coach, many of my peers are incredibly talented coaches and have created their own methodologies that help people achieve breakthroughs in many areas of their lives. In addition to hosting the Art of Adventure Podcast, I see this book as another way I can help shine the light on the work of these coaches.

When I first started as an entrepreneur, a few simple exercises changed my life. One such exercise was to envision my perfect day in detail. Three years later, I was watching the sunset over the Adriatic with my family, and I realized that I had just lived out my exact perfect day. Going through an exercise can truly activate your life.

How to use this book

We have broken down the content into different sections with certain themes – I recommend going straight to the section that most interests you or where you think you can find the biggest benefit.

These exercises are all about action. You “work through” them. You will get the biggest benefit by setting aside some time and completing an exercise. If you don’t set aside time to do them, you won’t get the benefit.

It can help to know that when you are working on a transformational process, it will likely feel uncomfortable. This is because your brain is working hard to create new connections as you learn, your worldview may be shifting, and you may have to use courage if you face challenging truths. Anytime our physical body or thoughts are changed, it interrupts the careful balance called homeostasis, which takes energy. Learn to embrace this discomfort or struggle, because this means the exercises are working!

To keep your momentum, it can help to have a strong emotional attachment with the outcome you are seeking. Check back in with WHY you are doing these exercises in the first place. What is the vision you see for yourself? Who needs you to show up and do your best with these exercises? 
If you are a coach, welcome! After starting this project, we soon discovered that we were all really excited to find out and start using everyone else’s exercises. Please feel free to try out, use, and adapt these exercises with your own clients. You could even build out the curriculum for your events using these exercises. If you would like to republish any particular exercise, please contact the individual author.

This book gives you access to a team of the world’s top coaches, in the comfort of your own home. This is a great book to bring to your mastermind or networking group or do with an accountability buddy. As with the African proverb, “To go fast, go alone. To go far, go with friends”.
